Tea House in downtown Santa Cruz, California (USA)

I took a trip to California with my son, so he could see an old friend who lives in Santa Cruz. While there we visited downtown Santa Cruz where there are many shops. After buying souvenirs and being on our feet for a long time, we decided to stop somewhere for a drink. There was a quaint tea and gift shop almost overlooked by us – in an alley with greenery and plants growing around the edges of the gates as a living screen. Glad we walked in. We were seated, and instantly I was calmed by the atmosphere. You can choose from a variety of teas brought over from China. The hostess patiently explained the difference of each tea and how to steep it correctly. She told us some history about tea and shared information about the shop owner. We learned that our table was refurbished from a ship wreck found under the sea. It was truly a time to relax and to take in the moment – and to realize we had so much to be thankful for. I will always remember the Zen feeling I had there sharing tea with family and friend.
